HARWICH — The Harwich Facilities Committee voted unanimously Oct. 7 to ask the Select Board to adopt a policy barring pets other than service animals from the Harwich Community Center. Community Center Director Carolyn told members a Select Board review found roughly $92,000 in part-time weight-room salaries had been paid for years through a revolving fund in violation of the town charter, though officials found "no malfeasance." Those employees are being shifted onto the center's regular payroll instead. The committee also reviewed a $530,000 Community Preservation Committee splash pad article and worked through confusion with the recreation department over siting an accompanying shade structure, plus roughly $700,000 in combined recreation funding articles.
Members approved September's minutes and set their next meeting for Nov. 10 at 3:30 p.m., after ruling out dates colliding with Election Day and Veterans Day.
