Harwich Energy Panel Reviews Grant, Pipeline Plan
Harwich's energy committee weighed a MassSave outreach grant and flagged an Oct. 28 Cape Cod Commission hearing on a gas pipeline expansion.
Other Committee · Meeting of October 19, 2026
Harwich's energy committee weighed a MassSave outreach grant and flagged an Oct. 28 Cape Cod Commission hearing on a gas pipeline expansion. Members noted Cape Light Compact will cover "100% of all the insulation and weatherization" costs for any resident through April, up from a prior 75 percent subsidy. The panel plans a Thursday meeting with a town hall assistant to press a stalled Climate Leader designation bid, citing Harwich's locked-in municipal electricity rate of 12 cents per kilowatt-hour through July 2028 versus a residential rate of 15.59 cents.
Members debated engaging the Sierra Club ahead of the Bourne hearing on a pipeline proposal they said would roughly double gas-carrying capacity under the Cape Cod Canal, warning that "National Grid will not want to abandon that pipe." No substantive votes were taken beyond approving minutes.
