HARWICH — March 19, 2026 — Harwich Finance Committee unanimously backs $11.8 million Monomoy middle school roof project and clears dozens of warrant articles in marathon session. Meeting with all nine members present for the first time in months, the committee voted 9-0 March 19 to recommend $11,801,239 in excluded debt for a building-envelope overhaul — roof, windows, and siding — at Monomoy Regional Middle School, a Massachusetts School Building Authority project that will also appear on the town ballot as a debt-exclusion question. Town Administrator Jay McGrail said the figure represents a worst-case scenario assuming a metal roof, which runs $400,000 more than a shingle option, and that "there's a lot of experts around it." The committee also approved a reconsidered $994,395 wastewater department budget restructured to satisfy state Department of Revenue objections and a $890,000 free-cash appropriations article covering OPEB, stormwater compliance, and a preschool subsidy program.
