Harwich CPC moves to reclaim unused housing funds
Other Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Harwich CPC votes to demand a written accounting of unused housing funds. The Community Preservation Committee unanimously agreed to formally request the Harwich Housing Authority specify how much of a 2020 Rental Assistance Program award, potentially $45,387, is available for rescission. Deputy Director of Public Works Sean Libby reported the $690,000 Brooks Academy restoration now carries a $754,218 total estimate against a $591,450 CPC balance, pushing the roof and cupola into optional bid alternates: "If we were to do this separately, it would have cost the town twice as much." Monomoy Booster Club President Anthony Bowers said a $100,000 press box remains stuck over an unresolved ADA lift sign-off: "They won't even deliver the structure to us that's been paid for." A long-stalled $100,000 Sand Pond restroom project drew a blunt assessment from committee member Kathy: "This is the most expensive restroom in history."
