Cemetery panel refers fence dispute to selectmen
Other Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Harwich Cemetery Commission tables fence fight, sends it to selectmen. Administrator Robin told the panel that legal counsel K.P. Law had weighed in on a boundary dispute near Mount Pleasant Cemetery, but Lori Lane abutters, represented by John Hodgkins, asked to be heard directly by the Board of Selectmen on Sept. 21 over a stockade-versus-split-rail fence choice.
The commission also reported a $256,282.04 Revolutionary War memorial project came in $163,000 under budget after a $93,000 bid, and a completed $25,000 gravestone restoration will return $12,015 to the Community Preservation Committee. Members are drafting a $25,000 tree replacement article and a policy for decades-old unmarked graves in Island Pond, calling some cases where "I think those ones a hundred percent should get a monument." The panel signed five new burial deeds and approved $3,500 in tree work from its revolving account.
