Community Center Panel Opens Fee Structure Review

Other Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Harwich Community Center Committee opens review of building rental fees ahead of next spring. Director Carolyn, whose surname was not given, told members the town can legally charge renters only what it costs to run the building, and floated an "a la carte" pricing menu after comparisons with another town building's rates raised equity concerns: "So why am I paying here?" she said, describing the complaint the town wants to avoid. The Council on Aging's Sheila reported the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority now runs $10 each-way rides to the VA hospital in Providence, and that SHINE has six counselors and roughly 190 open-enrollment appointment slots this year.

The committee also left a stalled shade-structure project near the recreation department's dirt parking lot unresolved and continued both a draft animal policy and a Code of Conduct review to its October 7 meeting. Minutes were approved unanimously with one time correction; the meeting adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
