Other Committee · Meeting of August 31, 2026
HARWICH — The Harwich Energy and Climate Action Committee pressed for a free state energy audit of municipal buildings and approved prior minutes unanimously. Members discussed applying for technical assistance through the state's Climate Leader program, which could fund a consultant to inventory HVAC needs across town buildings, citing an application deadline members believed fell around November 27 but were unsure applied to this year. One member, a retired engineer, described spending $20,000 on a heat pump and backup furnace and roughly six hours navigating a state rebate program he called difficult.
Members said they had heard no substantive follow-up from Assistant Town Administrator Jim Mulcahy since his earlier visit, with one saying he only told them "it was nice to meet them." Survey data cited from the town's Local Comprehensive Plan showed climate change ranked among Harwich residents' top five concerns about the town's future. The committee rescheduled its next meeting to October 5 at 3 p.m.
