Harwich Recreation Commission Unanimously Backs Staff Transition Plan
HARWICH — February 13, 2026 — Harwich Youth and Recreation Commission unanimously endorsed the department's staff transition plan and voted to send a formal letter of support to the Select Board. Recreation Director Eric told the commission at the February 13 meeting that two candidates had already been interviewed for the open program specialist position, with a third interview that day and a fourth application under review, aiming to fill the role by mid-March ahead of April spring programming. The commission's most extended discussion focused on a gap in summer lifeguard certification training, previously handled in-house by staff who have since departed, with members urging Eric to advertise for a community-based trainer via social media and job listings and to consider creating a dedicated summer lifeguard trainer position for future seasons. Eric said the full slate of youth, adult, and senior programs would continue uninterrupted, adding, "We're not canceling or putting off anything that was on our previous list." The application deadline for the program specialist role is February 27.
