Harwich COA Launches Website, Flags Space Crunch at Community Center

HARWICH — February 18, 2026 — Harwich Council on Aging launches new website and flags growing space shortage at its community center. The COA Board of Directors met February 18 to review a newly live public website at harichcoa.com — built on Wix and already drawing hundreds of unique visitors — and to discuss a deepening fitness-class space crunch that has forced back-to-back sessions of chair yoga and a "concert-ticket" registration system to manage demand. A joint-users meeting with building stakeholders is set for February 24 to tour the basement as a potential expansion area, though any build-out would require capital funding the Select Board has lately been reluctant to approve. The Friends of the Harwich Council on Aging will contribute $1,750 toward an April 2 volunteer recognition luncheon, with the balance drawn from the COA's formula grant. The board also tabled mass-mailing outreach in favor of rack cards at churches, the library, and community organizations, and agreed to bring liability questions about a proposed Friends contractor-referral list back to Friends president Bob Hamilton at his group's March meeting.
