Council on Aging · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Harwich's Council on Aging launched a meal delivery pilot for homebound seniors after a regional provider cut Tuesday service. Julie, who manages day-to-day COA operations, reported in writing that the program delivers lunches twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with capacity "limited to 20 households right now," filling a gap left when Elder Services stopped Tuesday meals-on-wheels runs. The board also warned residents after a local senior was targeted by a phone scammer claiming she'd won a prize, reminding the community "the COA will never ask for financial or other kinds of information over the phone." Separately, the town's Select Board told department heads to prepare level-service FY28 budgets with no new programs or staff.
The board's new chair reported meeting with Select Board liaison Anita Doucette to clarify the committee's advisory role.
