Zoning Board · Meeting of September 30, 2026

Harwich Zoning Board approves five projects, continues a sixth over an undisclosed ADU. Chairman Brian Sullivan and the board granted a variance, 5-0, for an ADA-compliant entrance ramp at a town building on Parallel Street after determining the project needed variance rather than special-permit relief. Special permits for home additions, a deck and a garage rebuild on Driftwood Circle, Indian Trail and Bank Street all passed unanimously, as did a pool relocation on Pleasant Street backed by neighbor support letters.

A garage project on South Street was continued to October 28 after Sullivan said its public notice never disclosed that the second floor would become an accessory dwelling unit, telling the board, "I'm not comfortable going forward with this approval tonight." Staff reviewer Rachel Lourdes reported Harwich holds 41 affordable units, 9.74 percent of its housing stock, keeping the town in Chapter 40B "safe harbor" status under a certified housing plan through 2028.
