Select Board · Meeting of October 19, 2026
Harwich's Select Board voted unanimously to raise the transfer station's fee for commercial construction and demolition debris to $245 per load, up from $205. DPW Director Link Hooper said the increase matches a rate hike by a private competitor, S&J Esco, and should bring in roughly $320,000 a year. Resident Michael McCaskill pushed back, saying "the numbers don't jive with what's being presented to the board tonight" and renewing calls for a long-stalled dump audit.
The board added a requirement for a broader DPW department review by June 30, 2027, ahead of Director Hooper's retirement in February. The board also approved $1,019,598 and $16,684,685 in zero-interest state loans for two sewer projects and declined to return $369,000 in Community Preservation Act funds tied to the Judah Eldridge property on Hawks Nest Road.
