Select Board approves new zoning bylaw task force
Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Harwich Select Board creates nine-member zoning bylaw task force. The board unanimously backed a proposal from Town Administrator Jay McGrail, Planning Board Chair Duncan Berry and Zoning Board of Appeals Chair Brian Sullivan for a five-year, three-phase review of the zoning bylaw, with no changes expected before 2028 town meeting. Members also approved a $136,428.50 contract with Colonial Municipal Group for two police cruisers and signed general obligation bonds at a rate under 4 percent after drawing nine bidders.
A proposed policy barring automatic committee reappointments drew pushback from resident Richard Weistak, who called it "a very, very bad precedent to set in this community"; the item was tabled for revision. The board also left the fate of its two-member Housing Committee unresolved, with member Art Bowden warning against letting it wither.
