Harwich Treasure Chest Committee Cuts Friday Hours, Unanimously Rejects Volunteer Application

HARWICH — April 29, 2026 — Harwich's Treasure Chest reuse facility will operate on Saturdays and Sundays only after the committee voted unanimously to eliminate a Friday opening that members said had not worked out. The committee, meeting April 29 in the small hearing room, also voted unanimously to decline a volunteer application from an individual whose status at the facility had been previously terminated; a member presenting the item said no name would be entered into the public record, and member Barry made the formal motion to accept the recommendation to decline. A separate unanimous vote formalized the facility's donation cutoff policy, restricting large loads after 2:30 p.m. while allowing volunteers to use individual discretion for small items — a motion Heather moved and a member identified as Jean seconded. The committee agreed to form two small task forces, one to produce a single written procedure for volunteer applications and revocations and one to update on-site operational guidelines last revised around 2022, and set its next meeting for July 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
