Harwich Recreation Commission unanimously reappoints its CPC liaison and advances a splash pad to its needs list. The commission voted to reinstate David Nixon for another three-year term as its Community Preservation Committee liaison, then catalogued facility needs ranging from a bleacher retrofit at the Whitehouse complex, newly quoted at between $125,000 and $175,000, down from an earlier $1,125,000 tear-down estimate, to a splash pad modeled on Yarmouth's roughly $225,000 recirculating installation at Brooks Park. Program specialist John reported structural cracking, significant rust on hoops, and duct tape on support beams at the older Brooks Park basketball court, prompting the commission to request separate quotes for resurfacing and hoop replacement before its June meeting.
Secondary irrigation for Potters Field, left unfinished after a CPC appropriation of $197,000 covered only Outback Field, was also listed as a need. A longer-range pool concept, framed by one member as a $12 million project with projected annual revenues near $1.4 million at 1,000 users, was placed on the wants list with a three-year planning horizon.
