Harwich Bike Committee Plans Chronicle Column on E-Bike Safety, Seeks Members

HARWICH — April 21, 2026 — A three-member quorum of the Harwich OCRT bike advisory committee approved March minutes and outlined a spring outreach strategy at its April 21 meeting. Paul Gazzai presided in place of absent leadership, joined by Rich Siegel and Fred Rice; the committee, which is supposed to seat seven, is currently at five members following the recent departures of former president Fran, secretary Jim Ferry, and a prior member named Charlie. Siegel proposed a four-month summer column in the Harwich Chronicle on e-bike safety — June through September — pairing photographs of traditional and electric bikes on actual trails, contingent on editor Tim Wood's agreement. Rice volunteered to draft a short membership-recruitment notice for the Chronicle, targeting publication as soon as next week. Gazzai agreed to contact DPW Director Lincoln Drew before his June retirement to ask whether worn bicycle pavement markings at Harwich trail intersections are scheduled for repainting. The committee's next meeting is May 19 at 1 p.m.
